Not a generic crescent or circle, but the actual moon: the specific illumination, the position of the terminator line, even the tilt and orientation as seen from your part of the world. A crescent moon in Dublin leans at a different angle than the same crescent seen from Sydney. We calculate both.
How it works. Choose your date and location, add a personal message if you like, and we'll generate a moon phase print that's astronomically accurate and entirely yours. The lunar phase is calculated using the same positional astronomy behind our star maps, based on the work of Jean Meeus and NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter data. The result is printed on museum-grade Hahnemuhle 200gsm paper with archival inks rated for 100+ years.
The science behind the tilt. Most moon phase products show a flat, orientation-free disc. Ours doesn't. The moon's apparent tilt changes with latitude: in the northern hemisphere, crescents lean one way; at the equator, they lie flat like a bowl; in the southern hemisphere, the whole image flips. Our engine calculates the parallactic angle for your location, so your print shows the moon the way you would have seen it that night.

How accurate is the moon phase on the print?
Extremely accurate. We calculate the exact lunar phase for your date using positional astronomy based on Jean Meeus' Astronomical Algorithms and NASA Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter data. The illumination percentage, phase shape, and visible surface detail are all specific to your chosen date.
Does my location affect the print?
Yes. The moon's apparent tilt and orientation change depending on where you are on Earth. A crescent moon seen from London leans at a different angle than the same crescent seen from Sydney or the equator. We calculate the parallactic angle for your specific location so the print reflects what the moon actually looked like from where you were.
What paper and inks are used?
