To keep your jewelry’s brilliance, learn what to avoid and how to care for your precious metals with the care instructions below:
Caring for and Wearing Your Jewelry:
To help protect the durability and high quality of your jewelry, remove your jewelry before engaging in heavy exercise or other activities resulting in heavy sweating. Particularly when swimming in the sea or in a chlorinated swimming pool. All of our gemstones are natural and, therefore, can be vulnerable to absorbing dirt and to chipping. Avoid spraying perfume, applying creams or any other liquids directly onto your jewelry. Avoid wearing lotion around the area where you wear your pendant. Keep your jewelry away from extreme temperatures, humidity or sunlight. Avoid wearing your jewelry when using bleach, cleaning products and other chemicals.
How to Store Your Jewelry:
We highly recommend that you store your jewelry in the original Night Sky packaging provided or another suitably lined box or soft pouch and place a small packet of desiccant crystals in the packaging if you live in a humid climate.Ideally, store your pieces of jewelry separately so that they don't rub together or become tangled. Avoid spraying perfume, applying creams or any other liquids directly onto your jewelry. Avoid wearing lotion around the area where you wear your pendant. Keep your jewelry away from extreme temperatures, humidity or sunlight. Avoid wearing your jewelry when using bleach, cleaning products and other chemicals.
Cleaning Precious Metals:
To keep your jewelry looking radiant and to remove the build-up of dirt and premature tarnish, we recommend using the Night Sky polishing cloth supplied in the packaging. Rub the piece in one direction rather than circular motions. A Silver or Gold cleaner can be used. Do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean metal as they can cause scratching.
Cleaning Cord Bracelet:
The best way to clean your cord necklace or bracelets is to occasionally wash them with a soft sponge and mild soap in lukewarm water.
How to Prevent Tarnishing:
Silver tarnishes rapidly when exposed to certain substances in our everyday lives, so we recommend caring for, wearing and storing your jewelry as mentioned above.
Nickel:
We do not add Nickel to Night Sky jewelry. However, trace amounts can be found in some of the metals used in our pieces. Nickel is a trace metal which can be found in any precious metals such as silver or gold, it is also classified as an allergen.
Why Is My Jewelry Tarnished?
All Night Sky jewelry is crafted from Sterling Silver, 9k Solid Gold or Onyx. Pure gold and silver are very soft metals, so adding stronger alloys is necessary when creating fine jewelry. We pride ourselves on the quality of our materials, but there are still some circumstances where your jewelry will tarnish. The following are some reasons why this could happen.
Silver is a very stable element. However, the metals it is alloyed with can react to their surroundings, creating a tarnish. This occurs particularly when the piece is exposed to water, chemicals, high temperatures or humidity.
